After plastic surgery, guests notice hardness, water retention, swollen, hematoma or lumpiness in the treated areas. This post-surgical lymphedema is normal and it is caused by inflammation and trauma from the cannula used to remove fat. The cannula forms channels that begin to fill with fluid and the tissue around it becomes swollen.
A manual lymphatic massage helps move the fluid by gently pumping it back into the lymph vessels, reducing the swelling, retention of fluids and pain after the surgery. Without Manual Lymphatic Massages (MLD) the inflammation can evolve into fibrosis (a permanent hardening of the tissue) or a seroma (pocket of serum). Many doctors prescribe Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy after liposuction or other plastic surgery procedures to make sure their patients get the best possible results from their procedure.
We recommend between 5 to 12 sessions depending on the area, procedure and the recovering process which is different for each person. Goddesses who get multiple procedures at the same time (lipo and tummy tuck, or liposuction and a Brazilian Butt Lift) may need more sessions than someone who only gets one procedure.
The sooner you start your drainage the better. We normally recommend having the first drainage within 24 hours after the surgery (or after your first post-op appointment) as MLD is gentle enough and drastically reduces the appearance of bruises, swelling, stiffness, burn shooting pain, scars, lumps, bums and soreness that often occurs after the surgery. Massages are not included in your stay unless you purchased the “Treat Yourself Like a Goddess Package.”
